Continuing Education Program

CE Program Description for Reviewing Tests for the Mental Measurements Yearbook Series

2 hours of credit (per test review); no cost to invited reviewers

The Buros Center for Testing offers CE and CPD credit to reviewers who complete publishable reviews for the Mental Measurements Yearbook (MMY) series. Individuals who are invited to review tests for the MMY and are sole authors of their reviews (no co-authorship) are eligible for this credit. Credit is offered as a homestudy program that involves the review of a complete test (test manual and all other related materials) provided by test publishers to Buros Center. Reviews comprise approximately 1,000– to 1,500–word evaluations of a test and include information organized in five sections: description, development, technical, commentary, and summary. Reviews will be fact-checked and edited by Buros personnel, after which reviewers may revise their reviews or approve the edits. Reviewers will receive 2 hours of credit after (a) responding to editors’ queries (if any) and/or approving edited proofs, and (b) completing a CE evaluation form within 14 days of approving proofs. Completion of the evaluation form notifies the Buros Center of a reviewer’s interest in receiving continuing education credit. Certificates will be distributed quarterly (in March, June, September, and December) to reviewers who have completed these requirements in the previous quarter. Reviewers may earn 2 hours of credit for each review they write (provided they are the sole author). Credit should be claimed as each review is completed.

Educational Objectives

  • Produce a succinct, clear, and candid evaluation of a commercially available test that effectively describes the test purpose, its development, and its technical properties
  • Apply test evaluation criteria generally accepted and endorsed by the professional community
  • Provide a balanced review with a commentary that addresses both strengths and weaknesses of the test that would be helpful to prospective test users

Any commercial support for programs or instructors: Test reviews are published in the Mental Measurements Yearbook series and sold by the Buros Center for Testing.

Conflicts of interest: If for any reason a reviewer believes there is a conflict of interest or is otherwise not in a position to write an objective and unbiased review of a test he/she has been invited to review, the reviewer should request a substitute test.
